Financial Services
Daily Money Management It's not easy keeping track of all the bills that need to be paid and reconciling the checkbook. We realize some seniors may need help managing their daily finances so they can remain living independently. The Council on Aging's Daily Money Management program provides a counselor who will make sure the senior's financial obligations are met. The counselor writes, mails or deposits checks; keeps track of expenses, income and financial records; and maintains bank accounts. Personal Service Our Daily Money Management Staff provides assistance according to a client's specific needs. An independent senior receives visits at home or in the hospital for financial secretarial assistance. For the senior who needs more help, the Council on Aging applies for a Payeeship or Durable Power of Attorney to assume responsibility for the client's assets. The Council on Aging can become the Representative Payee for those in need of an agency to manage their Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Veteran's or Railroad Pension benefits. Conservatorship Services When a senior needs more protection, Council on Aging can apply to the court to become his or her conservator. When appointed, we manage the estate and/or the personal care of that incapacitated person. We are registered with the Superior Court of California and the County of Sonoma as a private conservator. Professional Staff Daily Money Management counselors are professionals experienced in personal financial management and gerontology. Their work is supervised by Connie Aust, a licensed Fiduciary, and our Social & Financial Services Program Director, and is bonded and insured. The program is audited yearly by an outside source to ensure accountability. Peace of Mind Our Daily Money Management program helps protect seniors from financial exploitation and abuse. It also prevents them from generating expenses associated with delinquent bills and duplication of services.
