The Council on Aging is proud to offer comprehensive legal services to seniors in Sonoma County, age 50 and above. We offer experienced, compassionate, and cost-effective professional legal services, emphasizing estate planning law, trust administration, and elder law.

The discounted legal fees that we charge for our services help to fund critical services for seniors in our community, including Meals on Wheels.

Comprehensive Estate Planning Services

The Estate Planning Program provides comprehensive estate planning services to Sonoma County residents, age 50 and above, for those individuals with more substantial estates (consisting of real estate or other significant assets).  A comprehensive estate plan generally includes the following documents:

• Trust
• Certification of Trust
• Assignment of Tangible Personal Property to Trust
• Will(s)
• Durable Power(s) of Attorney for Financial Affairs
• Advance Health Care Directive(s)
• All deed(s) necessary to transfer real estate to the Trust
• All necessary deed service, notary, and photocopying fees

We provide thoughtful, experienced estate plans for a flat-fee of $1,200 for an individual, and $1,800 for a married couple. Fees charged for other legal services (such as for the review or amendment of estate plans) are billed at the discounted hourly rate of $215 per hour (billed in one-tenth of an hour increments).

Please call Zachary Carroll, the Director of Legal Services, at (707) 525-0143 x 143 for a free, no-obligation initial consultation, or click here to contact him via e-mail.

Basic Estate Planning Services

After meeting with a Council on Aging attorney, the attorney may recommend more basic estate planning services for those with more modest estates. Basic estate plans may consist of either attorney-drafted documents or basic California statutory forms. Assistance with statutory forms is $100 per document, while attorney-drafted documents are $225 per document.
