  • Support Us | Council On Aging

Home > Support Us Your support makes a huge difference in how we can care for Sonoma County seniors. Council on Aging provides valuable programs and services to over 1,400 seniors each day. Although federal funding does provide about 38%, the rest of our needed resources are provided by grants, client donations, foundation, and corporate gifts, fundraisers, and bequests. But even those funding sources still don’t match the power of the caring and compassionate individual and almost 45% of our funding come from people like you. We greatly appreciate how ever you decide to support the important work we do every day. Our mission is to ensure that every senior has the opportunity and ability to remain independent with dignity and well-being. • Social Services | Council On Aging

Home > Services > Social Services Adult Day Respite Program Council on Aging hosts the Adult Day Program in community settings throughout Sonoma County. The Day Program serves those 60 and over with memory loss, dementia, and age-related needs. At each location, we start the day with a welcome coffee and conversation to ease the transition of the morning and then move on to our exercise and activities curated for cognitive stimulation and social engagement. Meals on Wheels delivers a nutritious lunch each day, and we also enjoy community members who facilitate music and art therapies. This is a special opportunity for loved ones to have a much-needed break from caregiving's mental and physical demands. We have our very own space in downtown Santa Rosa, the Alzheimer’s Day Site, where we can serve those with higher needs and support activities of daily living (ADLs) with flexible schedule options. While everyone should have access to this program, we understand that not everyone may be able to contribute. If you're unable, please reach out to us—you won’t be turned away. There are many opportunities for support. "Most of us, directly – or indirectly, know how difficult the job of caregiving for a loved one with a neuro-degenerative disease can be. As a caregiver for my husband with Parkinson’s Disease and cognitive decline related to Parkinson’s, I didn’t realize I was experiencing burnout until it “hit me.” Upon researching options online, I discovered that the Council on Aging offers a Respite Day Program at Vintage House in Sonoma. Soon after, my husband began attending the program, which gave me some time for myself during which I didn’t have to worry about him. Equally important was that he loves being there, & loves the facilitators and the other participants. He looks forward to going there, and comes home excited, talking about the various activities they did that day. In short, I heartily recommend the Council on Aging Respite Program!"
